BIO-ALL Meeting within the XIII National Congress of INBB

BIO-ALL Meeting within the XIII National Congress of INBB

The XIII National Conference of the I.N.B.B. Consortium was held in Rome, during the past 24 and 25 October, at the prestigious national headquarters of the CNR. It was a success; among the authoritative speakers, many of whom are professors of the 24 universities associated with I.N.B.B., we wish to remember the Rector of the «Sapienza» University of Rome (biggest in Italy), the President of the Bio District of Puglia and important leaders of the CNR, ENEA (the two main Italian public research institutions) and Farmindustria (association of Italian Pharmaceutical Companies). More than a hundred people attended the event, mostly researchers and teachers; with pleasure among them we noticed the presence of more than 30% of young students, graduates and researchers connected with the teachers of the Consortium and active in the three lines of activity of I.N.B.B.: food, environment and health.

At the beginning of the Conference, the BIO-ALL Project (intervention by the I.N.B.B. Director) was presented, then discussed during the break and meetings with young researchers and then during the afternoon panel (chairman the I.N.B.B. President and key speaker the CEO of Cube Labs) dedicated to technology transfer precisely in Life Sciences. It should be emphasized that all the participants received BIO-ALL material and as many as 60 of them participated in the project activities and 50 gave consent to be informed and involved in the activities of the BIO-ALL Project in the coming months.

Finally it seems important to report two significant testimonies. A young researcher stated: «We needed this initiative; a course that suggests how best to interface with the world of industry will be strategic for many of us, young graduates in the areas of Life Sciences «. The founder and scientific supervisor (coming from academic world) of a spin-off supported by Cube Labs and INBB has publicly stressed: «Businesses and universities speak with different languages and often see each other with suspicion; all the events and tools designed to bring the academic and business worlds closer together in the Life Sciences sector are not only useful and necessary, but can then be «exported» also to other sectors «.
