BIOHEALTH´s future more bright than ever! UBI, our partner and coordinator, supports innovation with various formats!

The pitch competition of UBImedical’s Seed Capital – Health Cup took place online, on October 1st. The five participating teams presented their ideas and answered the jury’s questions – Professor Manuel Lemos, Professor Miguel Castelo-Branco, Professor Ana Paula Duarte and Doctor Dina Pereira.
The jury rewarded two teams – CovidSight and Tox et al.
CovidSight is a technological tool that uses cameras with computer vision algorithms, to automatically verify compliance with the security rules of COVID-19, imposed by government entities, without human intervention or unreliable equipment. Furthermore, the tool is capable of detecting temperature, distance between people and mask use.
The goal of Tox et al. is to use Daphnia magna and microalgae in internationally validated acute and chronic toxicity tests, which will allow to produce data with the level of quality and reliability required by the regulations for the analysis and assessment of the environmental risk of raw materials, products and by products of the industry. As an invertebrate organism, Daphnia spp has added value, given the increasing limitations of the use of vertebrate animals for scientific research imposed by European legislation.
These two teams will receive €5.000 and 1 year of free incubation at UBImedical. This free incubation encompasses mentoring and coaching, counseling, applications for financing, meetings with investors and facilitators, consulting in intellectual property and support in the preparation of the business plan.
