UBI AND UGR PRESENT BIO HEALTH TECHNOLOGIES ENTREPRENEURIAL ECOSYSTEMS UNDER THE BIO-ALL UMBRELLA

The R&D Management Conference is an international gathering of academics and practitioners interested in the study of research, development, technology management and innovation. The prestigious event is of long standing: the Conference was initiated in Manchester in 1980 and the 41st edition of the conference took place this year from June 17th to June 21st in Paris, France, on École Politechnique, under the theme “The Innovation Challenge: Bridging Research, Industry and Society“.

The Research and Development Management Association (RADMA – https://www.radma.net/ ) is closely associated with the R&D Management Journal and conferences. RADMA is focused on the needs of researchers, practitioners and students of research technology and innovation management.

It was also possible to visit the École Politechnique’s Center for Innovation – DRAHI-X Novation Center, which comprises the X-Tech Incubator and the X-UP Accelerator. The X-Tech Incubator start-up program is dedicated to the development of innovative technological start-ups in a dynamic environment. Start-ups that benefit from this program remain there for two years before embarking on their journey of success. The Accelerator offers an excellent program intended for leaders of high-tech projects who, when laying the bedrock for future project development, wish to be both supported and challenged. Over a six-month period, with the option for one-time renewal, the École Polytechnique X-UP acceleration program is designed to help entrepreneurs build the foundations for their future business.

A group of researchers from the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and University of Granada (UGR) presented in this renowned conference, in the session “Innovation Ecosystems” chaired by Thierry Rayna,  a paper titled: “Understanding Bio Health Technologies Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: An Intellectual Capital Approach”, developed in the scope of the European Project – BIO-ALL. With this work the researchers aimed to identify the role played by intellectual capital in fostering the sustainable success of one of the entrepreneurial ecosystems at study under BIO-ALL – UBImedical, the incubator for the bio-health sector of UBI. This study aimed to explore in a pioneering way the application of the dominant triad of capitals forming intellectual capital (Human, Intellectual and Relational), thus, identifying and understanding the dimensions of different entrepreneurial ecosystems. This study revealed that the IC’s dimensions more critical for the success of the bio health entrepreneurial ecosystems are the structural capital and the relational capital, although human capital is perceived as a basic prerequisite for fostering the entrepreneurial ecosystem’s performance.
